How to Rank Higher on Zomato in Delhi
Zomato decides who gets seen. Here is how its ranking signals work for Delhi restaurants, and the exact fixes that move you from page three to the top of your area.
By Silverspoon Team

Most restaurants on Zomato in Delhi do not have a food problem. They have a visibility problem. The kitchen is good, the prices are fair, and yet the orders do not come, because the restaurant appears on page three of the list and almost nobody scrolls that far.
When we took over our own restaurant's listing, we were in exactly that position. This guide is the system we used to move up, and the same one we now use for every client.
How Zomato decides who gets seen
Zomato never publishes its ranking formula, but the signals it rewards are clear once you watch enough listings. In simple terms, Zomato wants to show customers the restaurants most likely to give them a good order, quickly. Everything it measures points to that:
- Relevance: does your listing match what the customer searched for? Your name, cuisine tags, dish names and descriptions decide this.
- Conversion: when people see you, do they open your menu and order? Your cover image, rating, price for one and offers decide this.
- Reliability: do you accept orders, prepare them on time and avoid cancellations? Your acceptance rate and preparation time decide this.
- Quality: do customers come back and rate you well? Your ratings, reviews and repeat orders decide this.
- Distance and delivery time: how far you are from the customer and how long the order will take.
You cannot change your distance. You can change almost everything else.
1. Fix your cuisine tags and categories
This is the single most common mistake we see in Delhi. A North Indian restaurant tagged only as "Fast Food", a biryani kitchen without "Biryani" as its first cuisine, a cafe listed as "Beverages". If your tags do not match what people search, the algorithm does not show you for those searches. Choose your primary cuisine based on what you sell most, not what you were listed as on day one.
2. Put keywords where Zomato reads them
Customers in Delhi search for dishes, not restaurants: "butter chicken", "chole bhature", "momos near me". Make sure your best dishes use the words people actually type. "Chef's Special Murgh" ranks for nothing. "Butter Chicken (Chef's Special)" ranks for butter chicken. Use clear dish names, then add the flavour in the description.
3. Complete every field
An incomplete profile signals an inactive restaurant. Fill in every timing, every description, every dish photo, the right price for one, and your delivery options. We use a simple completeness checklist for every client and almost always find ten to twenty missing items on the first audit.
4. Treat your cover image like an advert
Your cover is the first thing people see in the list, next to ten competitors. A dark photo of your shopfront or a logo on a plain background loses that comparison every time. Use your best selling dish, shot close, in good light, so that it reads clearly on a small phone screen.
5. Photograph every item that sells
Dishes with photos get ordered more than dishes without them. You do not need a photo for all eighty items, but you need one for every item that matters: your top sellers, your combos and anything you want to push. Consistent, honest photos also reduce complaints that the food "looked different".
6. Protect your acceptance rate and preparation time
If you reject orders, go offline during rush hours or regularly run late, Zomato quietly pushes you down. Keep the restaurant online for your listed hours, set a preparation time you can actually meet, and make sure the person accepting orders is never too busy to do it.
7. Build a review routine
Ratings move ranking, and ratings move slowly unless you work on them. Ask happy regulars to rate you, reply to every negative review with a short, human message, and fix the problem the review points to. A 4.4 rating is found. A 4.0 rating gets buried.
8. Use offers with a purpose
Offers improve conversion, which improves ranking, but a permanent flat discount trains customers to wait for deals and destroys your margin. Use targeted offers: a lunch offer, a new customer offer, a combo price. Then measure whether each one pays back.
How fast does this work?
When the listing changes are done properly, most restaurants see a ranking improvement within seven days. The bigger gains come over the following weeks as conversion, reviews and order volume build on each other. For one of our clients, the full system took weekly payout from ₹134 to ₹18,024 in four weeks.
